Kicker David Akers of the San Francisco 49ers has revealed the mysterious reason behind his roller coaster year.
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bees reports,
Akers revealed that his “up-and-down year” began in February with double hernia surgery…During the season, however, he fell following a kickoff and aggravated the injury. He said he flew to Philadelphia after the 49ers-Saints game on Nov. 25 to receive treatment. Still, he said he’s felt good in recent practices and in pre-game attempts, but hasn’t found any consistency this season.
This revelation was enough for the front office to give Mr. Billy Cundiff a phone call. Cundiff, if you remember (and I’m sure he doesn’t want to), missed the game-tying field goal against the Patriots in last year’s AFC Championship game.
I’d say that’s enough motivation for the man to practice hard alongside Akers and payback his former team in a dream Super Bowl matchup.
The Brother Bowl: Coach Jim vs John Harbaugh. It’s immeasurable on a scale … of how bizarre that would be.
