A.J. Smith, Norv Turner likely gone after this season

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune,  if Chargers head coach Norv Turner doesn’t turn things around drastically,  he’ll more then likely be fired.  There’s even a possibility that general manager A.J. Smith could be shown the door as well.

With the Chargers currently in last place after losing their fifth straight game this past week,  things are not promising at all when it comes to making the playoffs.

At 4-6,  the Chargers are only two games out of first place,  but they will need to get on a roll in order to make sure they’re still playing in mid January.

It’s clear Norv Turner HAS TOO GO. But Chargers fans (and perhaps the Spanos family) have to realize why the team is where it is. Norv has been allowed to stick around so long quite simply because he is a good offensive coordinator and more importantly to GM A.J. “The Bully” Smith he is a nice guy. A.J. “The Bully” likes nice guys cause he can push them around. The Spanos family made a mistake (in hindsight) to fire Marty Schottenheimer. Every knows Marty and A.J. hated each other. And yes at the time as Charger fan we were embarrased to go 14-2 and lose in the second round. But right now we would love to turn the clock back and pretend were back in 2007.

Who needs to go is A.J. Smith… His pedigree of great drafting has fallen off a cliff the last 3 drafts. He is living on past glory. We need a hard nosed football coach… Someone with an attitude like Rex Ryan. Before Rex Ryan, did anyone take the Jets seriously ?? BTW, Rex interviewed with the Chargers before they hired Norv.

A local post game sports radio program summed it up after the loss to the Raiders a couple weeks ago… “There is nothing ferocious about the San Diego Chargers…”

    Dear Dean Spanos,

Here is your shortlist of Head Coaching candidates for next season:
    (not in any particular order)

    Bill Cowher (1 Superbowl Win)
    Jon Gruden (1 Superbowl Win)
    Brian Billick (1 Superbowl Win)
    Marty Schottenheimer

P.S. I’m not renewing my season tickets unless you hire kick *** coach !!!

    BOLT UP !!!!

PLEASE listen to your fans. AJ Smith MUST be let go as well as Norv Turner. They have taken a very skillful team and turned them into an incompetent, insecure team. I feel so sorry for Philip Rivers! He has great potential and look what they have done to him! Our team was GREAT with Marty! The owner is a fool to have fired him instead of A J Smith! Get rid of both AJ and Marty and start fresh. PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Norv is great at calling plays and scheming against defenses, but obviously lacks the ability to motivate professional athletes. I for one am sick of the Charger players being referred to as “soft”. Is that any way to describe a professional athlete? A.J. Smith has made enough mistakes to have been fired years ago. I don’t understand the Spanos family’s blind devotion to this loser. Please make the necessary changes and give Charger fans hope for the future.

For a long time I wanted to give Norv the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance. Alot of that vanished last season, and is now totaly absent this season. Norv Turner does not have the “Presence” needed to be a head coach, much along the lines of Wade Phillips, Mike Singletary, Romeo Cronell, And Charlie Weis when he was at Notre Dame. As coordinators these guys are brilliant, but they just do not have that fire breathing attitude and ability to motivate as head coaches. The only time that Norv gets excited and ticked off is when he is trying to call a time out and the refs dont hear him! John Gruden just signed a 5 year deal with ESPN so he wont be back, Ohhhhhh Bill Cower!! yeaaa bring him on or bring Marty back!
yea and AJ has got to go as well. Like any dictator, once the power backing you becomes a toothless lion, and the blame game no longer works, its time for a revolt… OFF WITH HIS HEAD!! And no cake!!

I totally agree with everybody, both AJ/Norvy boy have to go. They are both responsible for the Chargers looking like they did back in late 90′s. Remember 14/2,1/15 etc.,etc.. Until Marty came in and put fire under their behinds! Oh yeah, don’t forget some fans use to wear paper bags over their heads. Remember? Fans can just give soo much! Enough is enough! Now it’s Spanoes responsibility to ACT! Not the fans!

DEAR MR. SPANOS THERE IS A SAY THAT GOES: THINGS RESEMBLE THEIR OWNERS, SO YOU MUST BE A LOOSER AND YOUR TEAM REFLECTS IT. I HAVE SPENT ENOUGH MONEY GOING TO THE GAMES JUST TO BE A LOOSER LIKE YOU ARE, SO HAVING SAID THAT, I HAVE RESOLVED NOT TO BE A LOOSER ANYMORE AND I’M MOVING MY SUPPORT FOR THE 49RS THEY ARE WINNERS LIKE THEIR WHOLE ORGANIZATION, JUST LOOK AT WHAT THEY HAVE ACOMPLISHED IN JUST ONE SEASON AFTER GETTING RID OF THAT LOOSER COACH SINGLETARY, NOW IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A WINNER FIRE THE WHOLE DAM LOOSER CREW STARTING WITH AJ ALL THE WAY DOWN AND PLEASE FIND SOMEONE THAT REALLY KNOWS ABOUT FOOTBALL TO RUN YOUR OPERATION AND THEN LEARN TO BE A WINNER. BYE BYE

This takes me back to the old Mike Riley days before Marty. The Chargers couldn’t win a game if there very lives depended on it! Norv Turner has taken a team that in the mid to late 2000′s was poised to win it all. Choosen by many who are in the football know time and agian as the team to beat in the NFL. I’ve watched them get worse.. & then worse.. & then even worse every year. All the while being told by Turner,” We just have to get better.” The team he took to the championship game was Marty”s team. His teams has decined year after year. Now they won’t make the play-off for a second straight season. Aj/Norv… It’s time to go.
