Detroit Lions left tackle Jeff Backus suffered a torn pectoral muscle recently and as of right now it’s unclear if he’ll be ready for the start of training camp. It’s unclear when the 33 year old Backus suffered the injury since he’s participated in the Lions player only work outs this offseason.
At this point there’s uncertainty as to who would replace Backus while he’s recovering. Some guys that may need to step up are second year back up Jason Fox, Corey Hilliard, and Johnny Culbreath who was drafted in the seventh round of this years NFL draft. Hilliard isn’t looked at as a long term starter and Cullbreath will need time to develop.
