According to the NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora, the first free agent that the New York Jets will look to re-sign will be wide receiver Santonio Holmes. The Jets will have other big name free agents to try and sign to long term deals this offseason, but Holmes will be their number one priority once free agency begins.
“I believe they will (be able to afford Holmes),” La Canfora told “NFL Total Access.” “From everything I’ve heard, he will be a priority. Look at what they’ve done in recent years with D’Brickshaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, stepping up for Darrelle Revis. They’ve done everything possible to keep their young core. … I think Holmes stays in New York.”
Regarding the Jets other big name free agent receiver Braylon Edwards, it appears that the they won’t fight as hard to keep him around.
Holmes is clearly the Jet best option at receiver and is a dynamic play maker that is consistent at making big plays, unlike Edwards who’s been known to drop the ball in critical situations.

Let’s do our homework here a little bit. Edwards had TWO drops last season…Holmes had 5 along with 2 fumbles.
Sure Edwards has had his fair of drops, but thats due to terrible quarterback play.
Braylon is on a good team, a run first offense and he is the BEST blocking WR in football (yes better than Hines) he means more to the Jets than Holmes does.
Braylon will be a Jet…we’ll see just how much Holmes tries to squeeze the Jets for in terms of $$.
