The 49ers recently pulled the trigger on a trade that would have sent cornerback Eric Wright to them from the Buccaneers in exchange for a conditional late round pick. Then they claimed he failed his physical, which voided the trade. Once that happened the Bucs ended up releasing Wright.
49ers general manager Trent Baalke told CSNBayrArea.com that there’s a “possibility” they might sign Wright now that he’s a free agent.
“With respect to Eric, there’s always a possibility that he becomes a Niner at some point, it’s just not now,” Baalke said.
Baalke confirmed that the Bucs had informed them of Wright’s recent arrest in L.A. prior to agreeing to the trade.
“As far as being aware of his latest situation in L.A., absolutely, the Bucs were very forthcoming with that information,” Baalke said Tuesday. “So (we) definitely knew what the status was.
“Our medical staff wasn’t convinced he was ready to be put onto the field, so we didn’t pass him.”
