According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers have signed former New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs.
Jacobs is the second former Giants player the 49ers have signed this offseason. They also signed wide receiver Mario Manningham about a week ago.
I’d be surprised if both Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon don’t end up ahead of Jacobs on the depth chart. I wouldn’t be shocked if Jacobs ends up getting released before the regular season.
Last season when Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw missed time due to a broken foot, Jacobs wasn’t able to pick up the slack and help the Giants offense move the ball on the ground.
Jacobs carried the ball 152 times for 571 yards and 7 touchdowns. He averaged 3.8 yards per carry.
