Tight end Vernon Davis made it clear on Thursday that he wants a new contract that will make sure he ends up retiring as a member of the 49ers.
“I’ve always wanted to retire as a 49er. I’ve expressed that to them,” Davis said, via the San Jose Mercury News. “For some reason, we can’t get that done.”
Davis says he spoke with the Niners about a new deal prior to the end of last season.
“Before the season was over, we discussed my interest in wanting a new contract,” Davis said. “If they want to give me a deal, I’ll gladly take it.”
I can’t imagine the 49ers won’t sign Davis to an extension after locking up Colin Kaepernick.
