This years Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith was certainly an unlikely candidate. A 7th round pick that wasn’t invited to the combine and has spent most of his career as a backup. He stepped up in the biggest game of his life with 10 tackles an interception returned for a TD and a fumble recovery. The interception and fumble recovery were set up by teammates and Smith was quick to offer praise.
Smith said this morning that he thought just about anyone on the Seahawks’ defense could have received the MVP award, and he also mentioned receiver Jermaine Kearse, quarterback Russell Wilson and all-purpose threat Percy Harvin as players who could have received the MVP. In the end, however, Smith was happy to get it.
“We had a lot of guys. It could have gone to anybody. For it to be me, I was kind of surprised and happy at the same time,” Smith said.-ProFootballTalk.com
The truth is anyone on the defense could have been named MVP as well as a few on offense. The Seahawks had a great team win.
