With the NFL planning to relocate a team to Los Angeles by 2013, there is really only one team that could pull off the move on such short notice. That’s the San Diego Chargers who can cancel their Qualcomm Stadium lease between February 1 and April 30 of next year.
Another team that’s been mentioned as a possible team may move is the St. Louis Rams, but they can’t leave their stadium until 2014 at the earliest.
The Jaguars are another team that likely won’t be heading west since owner Shad Khan would have to pay $25 million if he wants to leave Jacksonville within the next five-year. He would have to pay the money to the charity of former owner Wayne Weaver’s choice because of an agreement he made with him. Another problem would be them trying to get out of their stadium lease, since they would have to prove that they’ve lost money for three straight seasons and prove that their stadium hasn’t been kept up to standard.
The Oakland Raiders have been mentioned as a team that may possibly move back to Los Angeles, but that won’t happen unless owner Mark David sells the team. We don’t know why that’s the case, but it is.
