Robert Meachem is another receiver to watch. If he has a strong preseason, the Chargers may want to see if there’s a market for him, although that is highly unlikely given his $6.875 million cap number.

After Danario Alexander’s break out season in 2012, Meachem is expendable.  I’m not a fan of trading him.  The Chargers shouldn’t take any potential weapons away from Philip Rivers.

Despite signing his deal, Brown won’t be able to take the field for at least a couple more weeks. He underwent sports hernia surgery after rookie minicamp the first weekend of May.

“I never doubted it,” Mathieu said of getting the chance to sign an NFL contract. “I knew it was a long shot and it would be a process, but to finally sit down and sign my name on the dotted line means a lot to me.”

 

Terms of the contract were not available – including what Mathieu and the team agreed upon in the quest to keep Mathieu away from any further issues with any illegal substances – but Mathieu had said previously he was ready to work with the team to make sure that happened.

James Jones led the league in touchdown receptions last year. (And) Jordy has had some real big years for us.”

I agree with Rodgers that Cobb could catch 100 balls a season, but he won’t because of how much Aaron spreads the ball around.  The Packers offense isn’t designed to feed the ball strictly to one player.

“Everyone on the team likes Mark personally but there’s a general feeling among some of the players that maybe it’s time to give someone else a chance.” The player went on to say that he estimates that 80-90 percent of the team feels the same way he does.

“Of course, and those conversations are going on right now,” said Sanders, per NFL.com.

Sanders said he never stopped thinking of himself as a Steeler while the Patriots tried to lure him away with an offer as a restricted free agent.

“The whole time I was thinking, I’m still a Pittsburgh Steeler, I was still out here in Pittsburgh,” Sanders said. “It definitely came down to the wire around about (that) four o’clock, five o’clock area (on the April 14 deadline). I really started thinking like, ‘OK, maybe they won’t match the tender, I’ve got to be out in New England tomorrow, so should I start packing? Should I not start packing?’ ”

Sanders insists he’s not worried about getting a new contract right now.

“You guys keep talking about the contract,” he said. “You guys won’t let the contract go, but you know, at the end of the day, I’m telling you that I’m honest when I say I’m not worried about a contract. The contracts will come.”

“I just know that based on what I know Robert can do, he doesn’t have to be a runner as much as I saw last year,” Griffin Jr. said. “To me, you’re paying these [receivers] a lot of money to catch the football. I’m his dad — I want him throwing that football, a lot. A lot.”

Griffin Jr. says the Skins need protect RG3.

“I think for [Griffin III], he likes some of the things that they do. And he feels any area where he had a concern, he addressed it. And I think [the Shanahans] have concerns, too. We want to have a united community,” he said. “That first year everybody was just, ‘Wow.’ And now we have to look at sustainment. It can’t be a ‘Wow’ again.”

RG3′s father is a very smart man and the Redskins would  be wise to listen to him.  If they really think they’re going to run the read-option and Griffin III won’t get hurt again, they’re fooling themselves.  His career will be over before you know it.

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Nicks’ absence doesn’t have to do with his contract.

Although Nicks and agent Peter Schaffer have declined to explain why Nicks missed a voluntary offseason training activity session, the agent has strongly denied that the receiver’s absence was linked to his contract.

 

A team source, who had previously suggested to Y! Sports that Nicks may have been unhappy with his contract situation, clarified Thursday morning that he didn’t know exactly why Nicks was gone and was making what he felt was an educated guess.

“We’re excited for the young receivers that we have,” Harbaugh said when asked about a Moss reunion, per NFL.com. “Really feel that somebody’s going to emerge there because they have to. And competition will create that. And we’ll look forward to watching that.”

Harbaugh is doing the right thing.  The 49ers are better off relying on younger players than Moss, who’s clearly washed up.

“It’s neat to know that you are wanted,” Harvin said.

Harvin stated that he’ll have many difference roles in the Seahawks offense.  He’ll even play some running back.

“I’ll be moving around — pretty much all around,” said the 5-foot-11, 184-pound Harvin. “There’ll be a little bit of running back coming up. But right now, we’re just trying to get the foundation set, just running the base plays, and we’ll see where it goes from there.”

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says Harvin has done a nice job of picking up the offense.

“He has jumped right into the system of things,” Carroll said. “He already knows quite a few of the nuances and things. We’ve adjusted some things, but he’s already begun to take control of that.”

The Seahawks haven’t had a weapon like Harvin in a long time.  He’s going to make things easier for the rest of their offense.

It’s definitely something that we’ve probably dealt with around here a little bit, last season being an example.”

I got the impression that the Steelers had a hard time closing out opponents last season and that could be due to complacency.

A restricted free agent, Shields has not signed his tender with the team. Coach Mike McCarthy would not offer a specific reason for Shields not practicing, but Shields is likely eyeing a lucrative long-term deal.

 

“Sam Shields is a young player and our program speaks for itself and how young players develop year to year,” McCarthy said. “I wish Sam was here. He’s not here for his specific reasons that I’m sure if he wants to answer them, he can answer them. It’s about the opportunity to compete and our secondary is very competitive. I wish he was here.”

 

Given the second-round tender, Shields would make $2.023 million in 2013 if he signed.

Shields has been a good player for the Packers that has had his ups and downs as well.  Not sure how much money he’s looking to make per year.

“There’s been some changes this offseason in some of the offensive philosophies, playbook and some things that I think are good,” Roethlisberger said, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “It’s some compromise from all the different position coaches, the running back coaches, the line, and quarterback coaches. I think we’ve taken a little bit of everything and made it a lot better.”

Roethlisberger admitted that he asked for some things in the playbook to be reworked.

“There were some things,” he replied.

Todd Haley is a very good offensive coordinator and I really believe the Steelers offense will be clicking a lot better in his second year.

Bolden’s absence Tuesday was health-related, as he has been taking part in the team’s offseason program but hasn’t been cleared to participate on the field as he continues to rehab an undisclosed ailment.

Bolden, who missed two games last season with a knee injury and four because of a league-issued suspension, appeared in 10 regular-season games in 2012. He finished with 274 rushing yards on 56 carries and two touchdowns, and coaches credited him with six special teams tackles. His highlight came Sept. 30 against the Bills when the Patriots turned to a power running game against an undersized Bills’ sub defense and Bolden churned out a team-high 137 yards on 16 carries (8.6 avg.) and a touchdown. The following week is when he first showed up on the injury report (knee).

Bolden’s status could have some connection to the Patriots acquiring LeGarrette Blount in a draft-day trade with the Buccaneers; more depth never hurts, especially when a team is managing injuries/rehabilitation at the position.

Bolden had a fairly impressive rookie season even though he only carried the ball a limited amount of times.
