ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the Los Angeles Rams are interested in acquiring quarterback Peyton Manning if the Denver Broncos decide to release him or trade him.
The Rams have had internal discussions about bringing Peyton Manning to Los Angeles should he want to play another season, per a league source.
Manning still is under contract to the Broncos for another year, but most around the league do not expect him to return to Denver next season, if he returns at all.
Manning still must decide whether he wants to play again, and the Rams still are formulating their quarterback plans. But they are monitoring the Manning situation, per a source, which is a sign that the Broncos quarterback could have options next season.
With Manning’s rapid decline in play, the Broncos are expected to move on from him this offseason since he’s also scheduled to make $19 million and is clearly no longer worth what his contract is going to pay him.
The most likely case is that the Broncos will release Peyton Manning if he wants to play another season in order to allow him to sign with a team like the Rams. I can’t imagine them trading Manning since he’s not worth much at this point in his career.
