According to Arthur Ankush of ProFootballWeekly.com, it doesn’t look like the Jacksonville Jaguars are willing to give running back Maurice Jones-Drew a new contract any time soon.
Jones-Drew recently stated that he’s optimistic that something will get done soon. The problem is that Jaguars general manager Gene Smith feels like they took care of him three years ago after Jones-Drew signed a five-year, $31 million deal. The problem with the deal he got a few years ago is that the last two years (2012 & 2013) don’t contain any escalators.
Arkush pointed out that there’s a good chance that Jones-Drew misses training camp and possibly the Jags season opener.
