Winners and Losers: Steelers Week 8 Edition

Troy Polamalu

Troy Polamalu did a little bit of everything in this game. Polamalu recorded a QB hurry and one sack. He also came away with an interception, and he also deflected a pass at the line of scrimmage.

Lawrence Timmons

Lawrence Timmons continues to make plays around the line of scrimmage. Timmons made a couple of tackles within three yards of the line of scrimmage. He also forced a fumble.

Shaun Suisham

Suisham was awarded the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award last week. Suisham took a complete 180 in Week 8. Suisham missed two field goals that were under 35 yards. The Steelers ended up losing the game by three points.

Zoltan Mesko

Mesko was a big reason as to why the Raiders blocked that punt in the first quarter. Mesko did not receive the ball properly off the snap. With 1:15 left in the first half, Mesko managed to only punt the ball 30 yards from the Steelers 16 yard-line. Luckily for Mesko, the Raiders ended up turning the football over.

Steelers Offensive Line

The Raiders recorded five sacks. Marcus Gilbert, Mike Adams and Kelvin Beachum looked downright pitiful. The Steelers also lost David DeCastro, Guy Whimper and Ramon Foster to injury. This line did not give Roetlisberger time to throw.

Coaching Staff

Against the Raiders, the Steelers made a lot of questionable decisions. The Steelers waited too late to attempt to establish the run, and it led to the Raiders destroying them on pass plays. The Steelers’ first drive of the second half lasted nine minutes, while being down by 18 points. The Steelers also wasted a timeout while the clock was not running, with under two minutes left in the game.

Antonio Brown

Brown caught nine passes for 82 yards, and he returned one punt for 45 yards, but he did not make a play when it meant the most. Brown dropped two passes on third down in the fourth quarter. One of those drops resulted in a pick by the Raiders.
